Harry sat, listening to the music. She was there, yet, he felt like he was alone. She felt so distant from him, like she was in a separate world.

He had to do something to reconcile with her.

He stood, walking over to where Hermione sat. As he looked in her eyes, he outstretched a hand to her, inviting her to dance with him.

She looked skeptical at first, but she grabbed his hand anyway.

He reached behind her and began to fiddle with the clasp of her necklace, undoing it and setting it on the ground. Harry then led her to the middle of the tent, where they would be less prone to bumping into anything.

She still looked somewhat critical of things, but Harry didn’t mind. He began to sway her arms back and forth, to start the dancing. She gave a small smile in response, but it quickly vanished.

Eventually, as the music rose, Hermione began to smile again. She started leading them, and Harry followed, as she motioned for him to start turning her around.

They kept dancing and dancing, and finally her smile stayed. Both of them were laughing for a long time, until they finally got close enough to where their heads were resting on each other’s shoulders. Harry didn’t want to leave.

“I’m sorry,” he said, holding Hermione a little closer to him. “I didn’t want to fight with Ron, but…”

She was silent.

“I’m pretty sure he hates me, and that is the worst feeling in the world. The only thing that could ever hurt worse would be knowing that you hate me too. Hermione, you are… amazing. You are amazing, and smart, and beautiful, and Ron is very lucky to have you.”

Hermione’s head began to lift itself from Harry’s shoulder, prompting him to do the same. She looked into his eyes, with an emotion that Harry couldn’t quite detect, and she began to lean forward. Was this it? Was she about to kiss him? He closed his eyes, waiting for the sensation of her lips against his.

And that’s when it happened. It was sweet, but it wasn’t soft. Harry could barely even describe it. It was almost perfect, in a way. He had never been so in love with her in his entire life than he had been in that moment.

When she pulled away, she said, “I was never Ron’s to begin with. I never hated you. I never have and I never will.”

The music began to fade, but the moment was still in full force.

“Seriously, Wilson??? You couldn’t hold off for like three seconds?”

“Jeez. I’m sorry. I thought I was only helping. Plus, it helped kick off the plot, so you’re welcome. Stop looking at me like that. This totally ambiguous noodle incident was your fault, anyway.”

“Whatever. We are gonna be so dead once the others catch up to us.”

“Oh no, Deadpool accidentally shot some people when he wasn’t supposed to! Boohoo, spending time with him is such torture, my Uncle Ben is dead, woe is me. What else is new? This is what you signed up for. All part of the job, Spidey.”

“You know, you’re a real piece of work, don’t you?”

“Yeah. I’m also a real piece of ass. But I suppose you have no interest in that either.”

“I hate you. So much.”

“Aww, thanks, snookums. But we don’t have time right now. We gotta go. Do the webby thingy.”

“Why did I even agree to do any of this?”

“Hate to break it to you, darlin’, but I’m not going anywhere for a LONG time. I think I’ve finally found the one!”

“I swear to God if you don’t stop babbling I will turn this web around.”

“Look! Spidey made a funny!”

“I don’t know who you think you are, but if you think for a single second that I’m going to put up with anymore of your crap, you’re dead wrong.”

“What’s the matter?”

“YOU! IT’S YOU! YOU’RE THE MATTER!”

“What do you mean, I’m the matter? Is that a romantic metaphor I spidey-sense?”

“Look, we’re on solid ground now. Just… leave me alone. I need some time to just calm down.”

“I’m not going anywhere, Spidey. You realize that, right? We’re partners now, whether you like it or not. I’m sorry, but I don’t make the rules.”

“I know, it’s just… Sorry in advance, but you can be really annoying.”

“No offense taken. I completely get it.”

“But… you’re not all that bad, I guess. You’re a funny guy.”

“You’re goddamn right I am.”

“Ha. Shut up…”

“No, YOU shut up…”

“Did you just…?”

“Uh, I think I did?”

“Well, uh… that was… unexpected, to say the least…”

“I’m sorry, I just… I thought that maybe you’d picked up on my awkward flirting and-”

“Yeah, I might’ve picked up on it a little.”

“Nice. Well, now that we’ve had this nice pep talk and the writer is out of ideas for us, how’s about we go kick some ass?”

The tornado was coming closer.

Max tried to clear her mind. She hated this. She needed more time to think. Her heart felt like it was going to break in two no matter what she did.

Every second counted.

She knew what she had to do. While it would hurt like hell, she had to save the city.

“Max… it’s time,” Chloe said.

Max couldn’t bring herself to look right at Chloe as she spoke.

“Chloe…” She could feel her throat getting tighter. She wanted to stop speaking, to just rewind and change everything. But she couldn’t bring herself to go all the way back. She just had to make this decision.

“I’m so… so sorry. I don’t want to do this…”

She could feel Chloe’s arms wrapping themselves around her, and she reached out to hug her back in response. “I know, Max. But we have to.” Chloe pulled away and looked straight down into Max’s eyes. “We have to save everybody, okay?

“And you’ll make those fuckers pay for what they did to Rachel.”

There it was. The awful, horrible, breaking of her heart.

“Being with you this week was the best farewell gift I could’ve ever hoped for.” Chloe was on the verge of tears. Max couldn’t do anything but stare at her.

“You’re my hero, Max.”

It felt like she was in a trance. She had to act now, or else she would never have another chance. She had been in love with Chloe. She loved her, so much, and she was going to die. Max had to accept it now.

But not before she finally got in one last kiss.

She stepped forward and put one hand on Chloe’s cheek and the other on her chin. She brought her lips forward, planting them softly against hers. All of the memories of that week came rushing back to her again. Everything that she and Chloe had done. Chloe’s hands landed on her shoulders. Time, for once in Max’s life, finally seemed to stand still.

She knew that she had to pull away.

Looking at Chloe again made her heart break anew. She couldn’t hold back her tears anymore.

Chloe grabbed Max’s chin. “Please stop. This is all I’ve ever wanted, right now, right here in front of me. The only thing that would make my life complete now would be seeing you smile one last time.”

Max couldn’t say no to her.

Even through the tears, Max smiled. She smiled. Every memory of Chloe, everything that they had done together, every single second spent with her was definitely something to smile about. And now she had just shared the best kiss of her entire life with the only person she’s ever loved.

Maybe Max’s life was complete now, too.

“No… no, don’t cry, please… don’t cry…” Dan said, cupping Phil’s face with his hands. He had never seen Phil like this before. Sure, he had seen him cry once or twice, but he had never seen him this vulnerable.

Phil wasn’t full-on bawling, but he definitely wasn’t dry-eyed. “I’m sorry, it’s just… I can’t believe how far we’ve come in the past… nine years, both of us? I don’t even remember how long it’s been, and we’ve already done so much. It’s going by too fast, and… we’ve done so much for so many people. I’m really just… I can’t believe that we’ve written a book or gone on tour or made a game or…”

Dan looked at him for a second before placing a kiss on his forehead. “Phil, please don’t cry. Things are only going to get better from here. We’ve already done so much, and we’re going to do so much more. Believe me.”

He wiped Phil’s eyes, trying to get the tears out of them. He hated seeing Phil this way. Dan knew that he wasn’t really upset, but at the same time, he felt like he had made Phil sad for some reason.

“I know, but it feels like everything’s going by too fast. Before we know it, we’ll be old and we won’t be making videos anymore, and nobody will remember our names…”

“Are you kidding? We have so many people that love us and look up to us! I’m sure that they’ll all remember our names. We have an app, we have a book. Everyone who has those will remember us, and still think that we’re the coolest, even when we don’t post anything anymore, which I highly doubt. You and I will probably keep making videos until we’re like 80.”

This got a laugh out of Phil. Dan laughed with him, and Phil’s smile stayed after he laughed. “You’re right. I should probably stop crying. I mean, there’s so much to be happy about! After all, I’ve got you, too, don’t I?”

Dan blushed. “Um… I guess, but that’s not really the most awesome thing you’ve done, right?”

Phil shook his head before leaning forward to kiss Dan. His eyes closed as he waited for his lips to touch his, and he knew that this was all that really mattered to him in the long run.

When they both pulled away, Phil smirked and said, “So you think that I’ve done you, huh?”

“PHIL YOU SARCASTIC LITTLE SHIT.”
